Why Discord is Sticking with React Native

Why Discord is Sticking with React Native

Being one of the first apps built with React Native, we were excited to share our first year journey using React Native back in 2016.Looking back at the past three years, React Native has proven to be extremely successful at Discord and helped drive our iOS user adoption from zero to millions!More specifically, React Native has allowed us to reap the benefits of quickly leveraging reusable code across platforms, as well as develop a small and mighty team.Meanwhile, we’ve learned to adapt to its inevitable pain points without sacrificing overall productivity. Start with iOS, Try Android Later We tried React Native literally the day it came out, holding off on building our iOS app because we knew it would be announced at React.js Conf 2015 .Similar to iOS, we tried React Native the day it was released for Android. We were surprised by how easily and quickly we were able to make our comprehensive iOS app run on Android — took only two days and it built! However, we immediately stopped after identifying various issues such as poor performance of touch events and lack of 64-bit support . We continued to follow React Native Android through observing many other apps and blog posts, but there have been no fundamental improvements to convince us to try again.Though React Native was not ideal for Android, we realized it would be for iOS. While it might seem odd to choose React Native for only one mobile platform, especially considering React Native was all about “learn once for mobile instead of twice”, it’s given us a lot of benefits, such as: React and Flux...

Creating First ASP.NET Core 3.0 App with Visual Studio 2019 Preview

The first public preview of Visual Studio 2019 and .NET Core 3.0 is out. I expect both to be a major release with and some code breaking changes. The biggest change with .NET Core 3.0 is support for desktop applications and ASP.NET Core 3.0 will only run on .NET Core. In this post, we’ll see how to install .NET Core 3.0 and Visual Studio 2019 preview, new features of visual studio 2019 and also creating first ASP.NET Core 3.0 app with Visual Studio 2019. Creating First ASP.NET Core 3.0 App with Visual Studio 2019 Before we create the application, first we need to install Visual Studio 2019 and .NET Core 3.0. Let’s first install .NET Core 3.0 SDK. Installing .NET Core 3.0 To download .NET Core 3.0, visit link. Based on your platform, download the appropriate installer. Once the download is complete, run the installer to install .NET Core 3.0 on your system. The .NET Core 3.0 preview installation will not impact your existing .NET Core version installation. Installing Visual Studio 2019 Preview To install Visual Studio 2019 preview, download the installer from location. Don’t worry. Visual Studio and Visual Studio “Preview” can be installed side-by-side on the same device. It will have no impact on your current stable VS installation. Once the installer is downloaded, run the installer. The installer will download the required files and install them. After completing the download and installation, then workloads will open. Select what are the workloads we need. To start, select ASP.NET and web development, .NET Core cross-platform development. The installation will take some time to complete. How To Implement Artificial Intelligence In Mobile App Development

How To Implement Artificial Intelligence In Mobile App Development

Source Artificial Intelligence (AI) is one of the few emerging technologies that promise to bring about some striking transformations in the blooming world of Android app development. When it comes to improving business relations, growth, and expectations, this technology has got the highest spotlight that cannot be overlooked by anyone looking to make a meaningful impact in the business world through technology. It is interesting to see how AI is growing rapidly to become the next big thing the world has ever known. Today, many app development companies around the world are not only interested in adopting AI but are also focused on putting the technology into the hands of people. Basically, they are looking to introduce it through apps in their mobile devices. By incorporating Artificial Intelligence (AI) features with Android app development, many smartphones will soon begin to perform some advanced technology roles such as landmark recognition, image labeling, barcode scanning, face recognition, and text recognition. Aside from helping to bring about amazing user experience, building Android applications equipped with in-built AI features can go a long way to simplify work for many smartphone users. Artificial learning ideas for mobile apps There are several ways a mobile app development company can apply Artificial Intelligence in an Android application. Depending on the task on ground, any app developers can learn to incorporate AI into their app development project just to get the help they need. Optimize the searching process It will be more intuitive and less troublesome for mobile users to engage in a searching process, perform suggestions, spelling corrections, and add a voice search when AI is integrated into a...

Announcing .NET Core 3.1

Announcing .NET Core 3.1 We’re excited to announce the release of .NET Core 3.1. It’s really just a small set of fixes and refinements over .NET Core 3.0, which we released just over two months ago. The most important feature is that .NET Core 3.1 is an long-term supported (LTS) release and will be supported for three years. As we’ve done in the past, we wanted to take our time before releasing the next LTS release. The extra two months (after .NET Core 3.0) allowed us to select and implement the right set of improvements over what was already a very stable base. .NET Core 3.1 is now ready to be used wherever your imagination or business need takes it. You can download .NET Core 3.1, for Windows, macOS, and Linux: ASP.NET Core and EF Core are also being released today. Visual Studio 2019 16.4 was also released today and includes .NET Core 3.1. It is a required update to use .NET Core 3.1 with Visual Studio. For Visual Studio 2019 users, we recommend simply updating Visual Studio to 16.4 and instead of separately downloading .NET Core 3.1. Visual Studio for Mac also supports and includes .NET Core 3.1, in the Visual Studio for Mac 8.4 Preview channel. You will need to opt into the Preview channel to use .NET Core 3.1. Release notes: The changes in .NET Core 3.1 were primarily focussed on Blazor and Windows Desktop, the two new and large additions in .NET Core 3.0. This includes support for C++/CLI, which has been a regular request for developers targeting Windows. Before we take a look at...

Diverse Test-Automation Frameworks For React Native Apps — Smashing Magazine

The bar is set high for today’s mobile apps. First, apps must meet the standard of quality that app markets expect. Secondly, mobile app users are very demanding. Plenty of alternatives are available to download, so users will not tolerate a buggy app. Because mobile apps have become such a crucial part of people’s lives, users won’t be shy about sharing their love or hate for an app — and that feedback gets in front of millions of users in seconds. Further Reading on Smashing: Mobile is more important than ever. But getting an app just right, getting it to work across all possible devices, with different OS versions, display resolutions, chipsets and other hardware characteristics, and making the user experience smooth across all possible configurations, is a challenging task. The increase in mobile platforms and device fragmentation. (View large version) A ton of great technologies, tools, frameworks and open-source components are available for building native mobile apps. What value does React Native bring to the scene, and how can we make sure that apps built with it are well received by their target audiences? In this article, we’ll look at what’s available for testing React Native apps. First, I’ll explain some key features of React Native, before looking at how to implement these tests. Secondly, I’ll categorize testing methods and frameworks on three levels (unit, integration, functional), providing examples for each. Finally, I’ll provide simple examples of how to implement tests using the most popular open-source test-automation frameworks for functional app testing. The Basic Architecture Of React Native Apps It all got started with React more than three...
