How much does it cost to build a mobile app in Singapore?

Well, I can say this is the most common enquiry we’ve had or any app development company would get: “How much does it cost to make my mobile app?”. I believe the answer much depends on your app functionalities. However, there are other factors that affect the cost, two apps with similar functionalities yet their cost can be a lot different among different vendors. Why? I came across this interesting blog post and thought I’d share with everyone, so that you can have a better understanding of the effort to make a mobile app, and what decides the end product that you as a customer will get. We all know that costing is always “the” concern to any customer, but price should not be your only concern. There are other concerns that is equally important, such as ability to deliver the final product, UI/UX quality, code quality, app quality as a whole, speed/timeline of the project. I am proud to say that our Vinova team have always been famous in the industry for our quality and speed. Whether a customer is a corporate or a start up individual, Vinova deliver the quality app as promised within agreed timeline. This is very very important. We commit to our promises. Not to delay more, I’d like to re-post this blog article. You may click here for original post. Understanding The True Cost of Building Mobile Apps We see the same pattern everywhere, in various industries and when acquiring various products and services. Supermarkets sell bicycles at just S$99, but there are bicycles being sold at specialized shops going for as much...

Is Ruby on Rails a Good choice for your website?

Ruby on Rails (often referred to as just “Rails”) is a framework for building websites that can make it more affordable to create and maintain your site, while simultaneously offering improved performance and faster development times. We started building Rails sites in 2006, not long after the framework was publicly released, and have since created hundreds of thousands of dollars worth of sites with it, giving us many opportunities to put Rails to the test. Our conclusion? In general, Rails gives you more “bang for your buck” as a business owner, without sacrificing flexibility or performance. We have also found, however, that there are some projects for which Ruby on Rails is not the best choice. Below are some guidelines for determining whether Ruby on Rails would be a good choice for your project. The benefits of Ruby on Rails Overall, as a business owner, the three largest benefits you can expect with Ruby on Rails are: QUICKER LAUNCH. Sites that would traditionally take 12 weeks to build can commonly be launched inside of 6 weeks with Ruby on Rails. This time savings results from a few factors: a leaner code-base (fewer lines of redundant code), a modular design (re-using existing components rather than building everything from scratch), and the availability of existing plugins (again, reducing the need to build features from scratch). EASIER CHANGES. After site launch, future modifications to your site (e.g., adding new features, making changes to the data model) can be made more quickly, for the same reasons noted above. MORE COST-EFFECTIVE. Because of the speed with which Rails sites can be built and modified, you spend less money to create and...

Pen test (penetration testing)

Vinova is providing affordable and quick mobile & web app penetration testing service for Singapore Enterprises and SMEs. Contact us for more information, and best quotation.   Penetration testing (also called pen testing or pentest) is the practice of testing a computer system, network or Web application to find vulnerabilities that an attacker could exploit. Pen tests can be automated with software applications or they can be performed manually. Either way, the process includes gathering information about the target before the test (reconnaissance), identifying possible entry points, attempting to break in (either virtually or for real) and reporting back the findings. The main objective of penetration testing is to determine security weaknesses. A pen test can also be used to test an organization’s security policy compliance, its employees’ security awareness and the organization’s ability to identify and respond to security incidents. Penetration tests are sometimes called white hat attacks because, in a pen test, the good guys are attempting to break in. Pen test strategies include: Targeted testing Targeted testing is performed by the organization’s IT team and the penetration testing team working together. It’s sometimes referred to as a “lights-turned-on” approach because everyone can see the test being carried out. External testing This type of pen test targets a company’s externally visible servers or devices including domain name servers (DNS), e-mail servers, Web servers or firewalls. The objective is to find out if an outside attacker can get in and how far they can get in once they’ve gained access. Internal testing This test mimics an inside attack behind the firewall by an authorized user with standard access privileges....

Mozilla announced first two Firefox OS smartphones

July 1, Mozilla released the first two smartphones carry its new own operating system – Firefox OS: the ZTE Open and Alcatel One Touch Fire. The two devices will soon be available through Telefonica and Deutsche Telekom. Telefonica announced that the ZTE Open will be offered in Spain starting on July 2 for 69 euros ($90). The Firefox OS is an open-source system, intended to compete with Android for developer attention, and the experience is reportedly similar to using an Android device.  It was developed using HTML5, the language of the Web, which Mozilla hopes will make it easier for third party developers to produce apps.  With HTML5 integrated onto an open source operating system, there’s definitely a possibility that Firefox could catch on with that crowd, although it remains to be seen if the software has the performance or longevity to make a splash. Mozilla hopes to conquer much of Central and Eastern Europe, Asia and Latin America with Firefox OS — most of which are currently dominated by cheap Android devices. Reference: PCworld,...

How Free Apps Can Make More Money Than Paid Apps

As a co-founder and CTO at 140 Proof, a venture-backed startup for targeted Twitter advertising, John Manoogian III had written an article in TechCrunch website sharing his idea about ways to monetize mobile apps.   “While building apps for Apple and Android app stores can be highly lucrative ventures for developers, one of the hardest decisions an app developer has to make is how to get the app to pay for itself. Often the “monetization strategy” — shorthand for “how will this app make money?” — is left for last. It’s hard enough to get discovered by consumers among the millions of already existing apps, not to mention convince people to buy it. People increasingly prefer free, ad-supported apps for their tablets and smartphones, yet many developers still aren’t sure how to tackle the free vs. paid issue. Deciding when to charge for your app, and when to try an ad-supported model, is one of the hardest decisions developers must make. Four Monetization Strategies for Apps? Actually, There Are Only Two. Developers have several monetization options available, each with its own requirements and pitfalls. Before moving forward with a strategy though, there are a few of questions an app developer should explore in order to answer the ultimate question, “how can I monetize my app?” 1.       Is my app engaging enough for people to use it often? 2.       How willing are people to pay an up-front fee for my app? 3.       How do competitors in my space monetize their apps, and how successful are their strategies? As app markets across platforms explode, developers are talking to each other to determine the best type of monetization...
