The Queen is looking to hire a cyber security expert to protect the Firm’s emails and Google searches from hackers.

The Royal Household posted an advertisement for a Cyber Security Engineer, earning between £50,000 and £60,000 and working 37 and a half hours a week.

The role will involve monitoring the household’s ‘network and systems’, identifying security threats and leading ‘response activities’. 

The advert, posted on the royal vacancies website, asks that candidates submit their CVs by May 26, before interviews start in June.

Other jobs currently listed on the site include a liveried helper – responsible for getting the Queen’s horses ready for Royal events – and an operational support coordinator for the Royal Collection Trust. 

The advert for the cyber job states the job involves ‘delivering work that matters’ and ‘being a part of the professional business behind the monarchy’.

It adds: ‘Joining our Cyber Security team, you’ll have a vital role in delivering our Cyber Security and Resilience Strategy.

‘You’ll monitor our network and systems, identify potential security threats and lead on response activities.

‘Carrying out technical investigations, you’ll identify potential risks and impacts, and ensure controls are in place across our hardware and software to keep us cyber secure and resilient.

‘You’ll regularly review and evaluate our cyber security and response activities and working in close collaboration with the IT and Information Assurance teams, you’ll look to maintain our policies, standards and best practice.

‘Reporting to the Chief Information Security Officer, you’ll work together to create a culture of continuous security improvement.

‘You’ll provide expertise and insight on controls and procedures to minimise cyber incidents and strengthen resilience. 

‘And you’ll be relied upon to identify future projects and technologies that will develop our strategy further.

‘You’ll also be involved in creating and delivering cyber awareness training to employees across the organisation, keeping everyone up-to-date on important security standards.

‘The range of work will expand your knowledge further, and knowing your work is integral to the security of the organisation will continue to drive you.’

It asks that candidates are ‘educated to degree level or equivalent in a computer related subject’ and have experience in cyber security.

The household wants ‘an expert in IT risk management’ who has a ‘practical experience of delivering strategies’.

‘With a collaborative mindset and excellent communication skills, you’ll be able to provide clear and concise advice to non-technical colleagues and will be confident at building strong working relationships with a variety of people across the Household,’ it continues.

‘You’re highly organised and agile, able to systematically manage, prioritise and deliver your own workload to meet varied needs and deadlines, balancing day-to-day detail with wider team objectives.

Earlier this year it was revealed that Royal Household staff are going to enjoy the benefits of ‘flexible working’ even after the pandemic.

Like organisations across the country, the Royal Household has been forced to adapt to Covid-19 restrictions and has introduced flexible working options for its 1,200 members of staff who work at royal residences across the UK.

The posting for the £27,000-a-year role, based at Buckingham Palace, read: ‘Working as part of our professional and supportive HR team, you’ll underpin all aspects of our employee communications and will join at an interesting and important time.

‘With c.1200 employees spanning a diverse range of roles, our internal digital platforms are currently more important than ever; ensuring everyone is informed, connected, engaged and able to work effectively regardless of their location. 

‘And as we look ahead, more flexible ways of working is likely to continue post pandemic, making your role key to our future.’  

The successful candidate will create posts and videos to keep staff and potential job applicants up-to-date with the latest goings on, the posting continues. 

The posting adds: ‘No two days will be the same. And as you support others, you’ll have exceptional opportunities to grow your own career.

Analysis carried out by Femail revealed the Queen carried out almost half of her 2020 engagements listed on the Court Circular by telephone or video link. 

Among the engagements carried out in person was the knighting of Captain Sir Tom Moore at Windsor Castle in July and a joint outing with prince William to meet counter-terrorism experts in Salisbury in October.

A source told Vanity Fair earlier this month that Her Majesty is preparing for her return to work after being vaccinated against Covid-19.
